  1. So with the upcoming release of iOS 16 I've taken the time to do a very very unscientific look at the "feature fall off gradient" basically at what point in an iphones life it stops getting all of the features. I plan on using the iphone 13 pro I'm getting for about five years.

That's when it comes of course (give it up for week 3! Week 3 everyone!). For now with iOS 16 the majority of the changes will be on iPhone XS and newer but the update will be put on the iPhone 8 and up. The iPhone 8 came out in 2017.

This means apple has supported the iPhone 8 for a full 5 years! The iPhone XS launched a year later late 2018.

If they follow the update pattern from this year as it is the only one I cared to look at while being sleepy as shit at 1:25AM then my 13 pro should be supported for 5 full years and get all features from those update for 4.

Now the iPhone 8 didn't have an S model and also ran on the same chip as the X so theoretically the 13 pro might last a full 5 years with every update which will be perfect for my 5 year plan.

The A15 chip in the 13 and 13 pro is a slightly more powerful and slightly more efficient chip then the A14 chip so I could see them getting the same updates but hopefully the 13 pro getting an A15 with an extra GPU core might help edge out an extra update of full features.

I will have to see and I'll probably bring this tweet up a few updates down the line to comment on how it goes with the updates but my hopes are high with apples admittedly alright record of supporting older devices.. after the slow down scandal of course.

This should also be one of the last mobile tweets using twitter for android unless telstra and apple still struggle to get large storage variants of 13 pros this week. I'm also excited to start using the lidar to 3d scan and post it and to generally have a fast phone again.

And one final thing to anyone who read this far, what do you want 3D scanned? Old boxes? Street signs? Random cement chunks? Ask away!
